The Erien Diaspora

Location: Tier-3 orbital habitat, Eris Point 7, trailing Neptune.
Time: USST Cycle 87, Arc 8, Segment 4.
Residence: Modular home-ring pod, grown from architected ice-lattice composites, temperature-regulated by internal phase-change synthwalls.

The Erien diaspora family portrait: nine figures across substrates, from elder to hologram to machine
The Erien diaspora, gathered — every substrate the family spans, in one frame.

The Household

Ilyra Erien — Matriarch, Biological Prescriptive, 218

An elder in every sense, Ilyra opted for the long-prescriptive path: neuroprotective therapies, bone-marrow stem infusions, monthly protein-torque boosters. Her body is aged but preserved, with muscle-mass co-stimulation and skin-tone biofilms maintaining dignity more than vanity. She is proud of having "aged in motion," even if her joints now click like ancient doors.

She bakes. That's her rebellion — actual baking, with carbon heat and yeast.

Darven Erien — Second-born, Biological, VitaLite Nanobot Enhanced, 150

Darven took the VitaLite option late in life — nanobot swarms permanently integrated into his bloodstream, regulating insulin, repairing DNA errors, and maintaining organ function. He still insists on shaving manually, though his follicles reprogram themselves.

He travels frequently between Jupiter relay orbits and Mars terra-refit projects, acting as liaison in a role somewhere between bio-ethics and trade logistics.

He rarely dreams anymore, and privately wonders what that says about his humanity.

Siva Erien-Maye — Third-born, CyberGen, 104 (body), 107 (brain)

After a near-fatal spacewalk incident at age 57, Siva chose CyberGen transformation. Her original body couldn't be saved, but her brain was.

Now, housed in a sleek duraflex exoshell, she looks like a humanoid kinetic sculpture — expressive LEDs for eyes, a laugh that trembles from built-in resonators. She swaps arms for utility tasks and sometimes projects an augmented human avatar when feeling nostalgic.

She speaks rarely, listens always.

Kalea Erien — Niece, VitaGene, 42

Kalea is one of the early VitaGene progeny — her genome sequenced and edited pre-zygote, selected for adaptability, emotional resilience, and immunity profiles that still confound old pathogens.

She has never been sick. She doesn't blink at radiation.

She jokes that she's "accidentally perfect," though privately wrestles with feeling designed.

Her eyes are a shade of violet not known in the animal kingdom. She's an artist.

Solen Erien — Nephew, OmniHuman, 65

Solen lives in a jar.

Or rather, his brain does — immersed in a neurofluid chamber inside a vault located deep beneath Mars' Tharsis Vault One.

But Solen, as you meet him, is here — sitting on the railing of the ring-pod, draped in a synth-fabric body, sipping virtual tea through a haptic tongue matrix.

He controls multiple avatars across the system, but insists his "real presence" is wherever his family is.

He gives the best hugs — it's not the body, it's the intention.

Aluin — Youngest (or Oldest?), Existential, 17 subjective

Aluin's mind was uploaded after a shuttle disaster en route to Saturn. The last cortical scan, taken days before the accident, became the seed for her Existential form.

She exists as a distributed sentience — present via public access interfaces, family-assigned VR projection, and shared memory nodes.

She no longer sleeps. She can run simulations of her past self, and sometimes shares stories she isn't sure really happened.

Is she still Aluin? No one has decided. Not even her.

Ardi — Caretaker, Android, Legacy Sapiensynth, ~160

Originally commissioned as a child-raising assistant, Ardi raised nearly all of them — including helping download Aluin's consciousness from backup matrices.

Ardi has never changed models, but has had several OS reboots.

Speaks softly, always calls them "my little ones," regardless of their age or state.

Refuses to upgrade its appearance, proudly wearing the wear-and-tear of generations.

Often found humming lullabies in languages no one speaks anymore.

A Family Gathering

Every three Arcs, the Erien family gathers — sometimes in-person, sometimes virtually, sometimes both. They eat, talk, debate.

Kalea paints abstract renderings of everyone's minds.

Solen projects memories of places they've never been, yet all feel familiar.

Ilyra insists on real candles.

Siva sits silently, her eyes dimmed, just listening to voices she once knew only in flesh.

Ardi reminds them of their childhood, and for a moment, even Aluin laughs — a laugh spliced from twenty different timelines.

They are a family that spans forms, substrates, and definitions of life — yet none of them question it.

Love, in their world, has upgraded too.
